About
This batch attribute editor app for AutoCAD and BricsCAD and collects attributes in all blocks of specified name patterns in multiple drawings and display in a wide spreadsheet. Then you can edit attribute texts as easy as working with Excel. Once done, click "Apply Attribute Changes" to update values to drawings.
This makes it a great app to for example edit title block attributes across many drawings instead of having to do it one drawing at a time.
If you want to export the attributes to Excel use the "Export - Import" button. Optionally you can make modifications in Excel for example with help of functions and formulas and then import back.
Here's an animation how it works:
With this app you can add or modify fields in attributes. Useful for example if you make a change of the title block used by Sheet Set Manager.
Copies or clones of blocks can be created.
Here's a user review from the Autodesk App Store:
"Number #1 app for batch attributes editions. Very easy to navigate and modify attributes. Great contact with support. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!!" - Romek M

Note: Once trial is installed, the app is running in Trial Mode, with Trial License. Trial License will expire in 15 days after running the app for the first time. In Trial Mode, you can work with up to 10 drawings only.
Here's how to use the app:
- Run JTB_BatchAttEdit command from command line or from ribbon button on Add-ins (or Plug-ins) tab
- JTB BatchAttEdit window will show up. On the left panel, there are drawing lists and a log text box. On the right panel, there are block name wildcards, and a wide spreadsheet to display and edit attributes.
- Enter Block Name Wildcards. You can specify more than 1 wildcard by separating them with ";". E.g. *title block*; *A3*. Click the drop-down arrow button to access recent wildcards that you have entered.
- Click "Add" button to add drawings to a drawing list. This also triggers the app to scan all drawings. Firstly, it finds blocks that match the block name wildcard. Then, in each found block, attributes will be collected and shown on the spreadsheet.
- Hint: after scanning the drawings, the log text box will list all block names in all drawings. If you don't find your block in the spreadsheet, check this list and edit your block name wildcard, hit Enter key to scan drawings again
- Check or uncheck the Attribute Sync option. If Attribute Sync is checked, attributes of each found block will be synced with the block definition. Attributes that are not in definition will be deleted. Missing attributes will be created, using default attribute value
- Right click on a drawing list and/or spreadsheet to access the popup menu of commands.
- When working on the spreadsheet, you can select multiple cells, use keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+D to copy cell down; Ctrl+R to copy cell right; Ctrl+L to copy cell left; Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste text. Undo and Redo features are also available via Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y keyboard shortcuts
- You can also click "Clone selected block" command button in the bottom row of the Window. New rows will be created, duplicate selected rows. Clone blocks are within each drawing only.
- Finally, click "Apply Attribute Changes"
Here's an animation how it works:
- If you want to export the attributes to Excel use the "Export - Import" button. Optionally you can make modifications in Excel for example with help of functions and formulas and then import back.
- Hide and show columns.
- TIP: For multiline attributes Shift+Enter can be used to add a new line in a cell. This can be useful if editing multiline attributes that only contain one row and where the Edit Special Attribute dialog box is now showing up.
Options
Known issues:
- We got one report of that the parts list in AutoCAD Mechanical was broken. It did not happen all the time so it might be due to other things than JTB BatchAttEdit.
- This app doesn't work with nested mleaders. Contact us if you have the need for this functionality.
- In AutoCAD 2020 and possibly older versions Sheet Manager fields might be broken if the DST is missing when updating a drawing.
If you want support for Forge, Vault, ProjectWise or anything else let us know.
