About
App for AutoCAD to simplify layer override settings within viewports.
If you use VPLAYER frequently setting up overrides for linetype and lineweight of layers on viewports, this app will help you do it quickly.
Here's a tutorial showing how to use JTB VPLayer Tools.
First run JTB_VPSettings and set your preference VPLAYER override linetype and lineweight. In the animation below, they are "Hidden2" and 1 mm.
Look at first animation: inside the viewport, run JTB_VPLAYER command, then select lines. Their layers (Layer1, Layer2 and Layer3) will change their Viewport override linetype and lineweight to Hidden2 and 1 mm.
Still within that viewport, run JTB_VPMA command. Select source layer which viewport override linetype and lineweight is Dashed and 0.00mm. Then select target layers. Target layers's override linetype and lineweight will change to Dashed and 0.00mm.
In the second animation, we are in paper space. Run JTB_VPCLEAR and select viewports. All override linetype and lineweight of all layers in selected viewports will be cleared.
Switch to another viewport, run JTB_VPCLEAR again. Select layers via selecting objects. Override linetype and lineweight of selected layers will be clear.
Switch to paper space. Run JTB_VPMA and select a viewport as source object. Then select target viewports. Now we will see JTB_VPMA command matches override linetype and lineweight properties from viewport to viewports.

An interesting feature of JTB_VPMA is it saves the source viewport override linetype and lineweight properties of layers in a text file. Then, if you run it again in other drawing, select option "Previous" instead of selecting object, saved properties will be re-used. This feature enables JTB_VPMA command works across drawings.

About Overriding Layer Properties in a Layout Viewport using out-of-the box AutoCAD functionality.
In a layout, you can assign a set of unique display properties for each layout viewport. These settings override those in the Model tab.
The following properties can be changed: Freeze\thaw, Color, Linetype, Lineweight, Transparency, Plot style
On a layout, double-click inside a layout viewport to make it the current viewport. In the Layer Properties Manager, specify the properties to override in the current layout viewport by changing the properties in the following columns: VP Freeze, VP Color, VP Linetype, VP Lineweight, VP Transparency, VP Plot Style
Any objects with properties set to ByLayer will use the layer properties for that layout viewport instead of the global layer properties. Every layout viewport can have its own set of layer overrides.
Right click in the Layer Manager to access Remove Viewport Overrides for Selected Layers/All Layers In Current Viewport only/In All Viewports.
New Layer VP Frozen in All Viewports.
VP Freeze Layer In all Viewports Except Current/In All Viewports
VP Thaw Layer in All Viewports
LAYVPI command freezes selected layers in all layout viewports except the current viewport.
VPLAYER command is used to set layer visibility within viewports.
VPLAYEROVERRIDESMODE is a System Variable that controls whether layer property overrides for layout viewports are displayed and plotted.
VPLAYEROVERRIDES is a System Variable that indicates if there are any layers with viewport (VP) property overrides for the current layout viewport.
